| I
really got interested in radio when I was in 8th grade
and we had to pick a career that we liked and follow
around someone in that field for a day. I got
to come in and hang out with James and the previous
co-host, Tracy, for the Early Morning Show and they
liked me so much they asked me to come back anytime.
I came in as often as I could. Only being in 8th grade,
I didn't have a car and would have to bum rides from
relatives working in Rochester every time I wanted to
go to the station. "A huge thanks to my aunt
Deb for that". Years passed and when the
new morning girl (Cori) was the DJ at my junior prom
we talked and she asked if I might want to intern during
the summer. Of course I said yes and after a wonderful
summer of craziness, I got hired as a part-time weekend
jock. After a while things changed at work and
I got offered the overnight position and that's where
I am today.
Working
overnights can be pretty cool. I get more calls then
one might think, usually from people just leaving the
bars. If there's no school in the morning, then
I get tons of calls from students staying up late partying
the night away. As the morning moves on, I get
to talk more with people getting up to start their day
and to my fellow overnighters who are going home to
go to bed.
I'm
in the studio as much as possible, but when I'm not
on the air I am doing a lot of things behind the scenes.
Since I'm the overnight radio jock, I'm the golden
girl for our sales staff. Any last minute commercials
get thrown my way. I do a lot of the prep work
for the KROC Early Morning Show and for the other 3
morning shows that are in our building. Since
there are just a few of us working during the overnights
we get to blast the radio and pretty much party while
we work.
As the morning crews start
to roll in, we start winding down. I love my job,
it's such an awesome work environment. The overnight
and morning crews are great fun to work with.
I'm more of a morning person than anything so working
overnights gets a little rough sometimes, but then when
I wake up and have the entire afternoon to myself while
everyone else is still at work, I realize just how lucky
I am to be working at KROC. |
